For the Edmonton Oilers it was the same old, same old. Another game, another extra five minutes of work to put in. Unfortunately for the Oil, tonight’s game once again only gave them one point to add to the playoff race. Tonight marked the seventh game the Oilers have taken into Overtime, and like the previous matches the Oilers watched as the opposition snared the extra point. Vancouver winning the game 4-3 in extra time. The record for the Oilers since the streak started on February 21st is, 2-0-2-3. Leaving them five points out of the final playoff spot currently being held down by the Nashville Predators and LA Kings...
Newly acquired Canucks Geoff Sanderson and Martin Rucinsky did their part scoring points in Friday night’s game in Edmonton. Sanderson scoring the winning goal with less than thirty five seconds to go, in the OT frame. A period, which the Canucks controlled from the face off, the vast majority of the play taking place in the Oiler end of the ice.
Vancouver could use the points as they continue to chase the Avalanche atop the Northwest Division. It also puts a bit of breathing room between them and the Stars as the Canucks remain three points ahead of Dallas and six points up on the Calgary Flames.
The Canucks return home to face the Ottawa Senators Saturday night at GM Place. The Oilers rest up at home, waiting on the Ottawa Senators to pull into town on Monday night...
For the Oilers it’s pretty straightforward regulation or overtime wins is what they need, the two points becoming a required total. Time is fast running out, those squandered extra points may come back to haunt the Oil, when the leave the ice at GM Place on the 4th of April.
