Forsberg a Force!

Peter Forsberg once again had a strong night as the Colorado Avalanche picked up where they left off two nights ago, handing the Dallas Stars their second straight loss in the Western Division quarterfinals.

Forsberg’s line accounted for two goals and four assists in tonight’s 5-2 victory, Forsberg himself picking up a goal and assist in the effort. Forsberg and Alex Tanguay combined to frustrate the Stars, scoring goals for the second game in a row. Other goal scorers for the Avs included, Joe Sakic, Dan Hinote and Steve Konowalchuk. Dallas who took an early lead on a power play goal from Mike Modano, never got close afterwards, with Colorado building up their lead as the game progressed. Chris Therrien scored the second and final goal for the Stars at 17:19 of the second period, as Colorado took control of the game.

David Aebischier once again had a big night, turning aside 19 of the 21 shots faced. Marty Turco in the Dallas nets once again had troubles with the high flying Avalanche attack; Turco gave up the five goals on 27 shots

The key to the problems that Dallas face, is to get back to playing the kind of hockey they exhibited in the last few weeks of the season. They seem to be having problems picking up the open Avalanche players in their end of the rink, and goals are not coming as easily as they had hoped. That combined with a sense of mission that the Avs seem to be exhibiting is making the Denver fans feeling a little better about their chances.

Game three goes Sunday in Dallas. If the Stars are to make this a competitive series, getting back on track on Sunday is a must.
