It’s a game that got away from them, like many before, but if the Ottawa Senators need to look for positives they can start with a third period comeback which at least showed that they keep working.
The Sens frustration in the win column however continued for yet another game as they allowed the Tampa Bay Lightning to edge them by a score of 4-3. The winning goal coming in the fourth round of a shoot out, as a Vinny Prospal shot got by Ray Emery providing the Bolts with the home ice victory.
Ottawa continued to display some sloppy play during the game, missing sure things around the net and making some costly miscues in their own end to allow the Lightning to jump into the lead.
Captain Alfredsson and defenceman Wade Redden launched the comeback with less than two minutes remaining in the third with two quick goals which sent the game on into overtime and then the shootout.
The shootout loss extends the Senators losing skid to seven games now, the longest bout of losing that the Sens have suffered in over ten years. Thanks to their amazing start at the beginning of the season however, they still remain atop the Eastern Division clinging to the lead by two points over the Hurricanes.
Now that they’ve provided hope for the Eastern division, Sens fans are hoping that their team decides that the time has come to charge back up the standings reversing the flow of the last few weeks.
