The Legions are in Decline

Ok, considering their recent troubles few probably gave the Sens much of a shot at beating the Anaheim Ducks, the defending Stanley Cup champs having had the Sens number since last May. So when the Sens came out on the short end of the 3-1 defeat, no one could say they were surprised.

Likewise when they met up with the San Jose Sharks, a team that has started to swim into the playoff picture with a confident squad looking more and more ready to make a long term run come April. So taking a game 2-1 in OT, from the struggling Sens as they did, probably could have been expected.

But cmon' now, letting the LA Kings shut you out, that's the last place overall LA Kings, now folks are really going to wonder.

The Sens who have continued on their slide since tossing head coach John Paddock over the side, now have lost six of their last seven games and have been shut out in three of those seven games.

Thursday night, Erik Ersberg picked up his first NHL shut out as he turned aside all 40 of the Ottawa shots on goal, Martin Gerber who seems to have inherited the starting goal tending position with the Sens stopped 30 shots, allowing one goal while the Kings picked up an empty net marker to secure the 2-0 victory.

The Sens head off to the desert now, with a Saturday night match up with the Coyotes at 7 pm ET, 4 PM PT on selected CBC stations, the way things are going of late, they very well may wrap up their time in the west as the poster children for well worked over road kill.

Hopefully not to be left in the Arizona outback to be marked by buzzards as their next potential opposition.
